Since 1991, the Indian economy has pursued free market liberalisation, greater openness in trade and increase investment in infrastructure. This helped the Indian economy to achieve rapid rate of economic growth and economic development. Despite high rates of economic growth, India still faces various challenges, such as poverty, unemployment, poor educational standards, gender inequality, malnutrition etc. These urgent problems of the twenty first century require scientific solutions and yet the coverage of science in ordinary public discourse has dropped sharply.
Imbibing and promoting science and scientific rational can address major contemporary challenges of economic growth and social transformation in societies. Given the multifaceted and symbiotic relationship between science and society and the critical role the former plays in the development of the latter, imbibing scientific outlook to address some of our critical developmental gaps is a necessity.
To further discuss, exchange and deliberate on ways to imbibe and promote science and scientific rational while addressing developmental gaps, FICCI Aditya Birla CSR Centre for Excellence and Vijnana Bharati (VIBHA) is jointly organizing a conference with the theme – Promoting Scientific interventions for Transforming India through CSR on May 29, 2018 at FICCI Federation House, New Delhi.
